Write to Newspapers

Letters to the editors and op-ed articles are another way to get lawmakers’ attention. They can also get journalists’ attention, raise public awareness, and counteract DST confusion.

Be specific about permanent Standard Time! Many members of the press assume “end DST” means “end clock changes”, without realizing that permanent DST is slower and more expensive than permanent Standard Time, and without realizing permanent DST is more harmful than clock changes.

Letters (emails or form submissions) can come from anyone, and their content is brief (such as 250 words or fewer). Op-eds are reserved for persons of note or letter (per each publisher’s discretion), and their content can be longer (such as 650 words).

Be polite and to-the-point in your writing. For verification purposes, include your full name, phone number, email address, and city of residence (only your name and city are published).

Write the newspapers that your community reads. Here are links to instructions for the largest publications in the US:

Encourage Endorsements

Policy endorsements play a crucial role in raising public awareness, attracting journalists’ attention, and convincing lawmakers to do what’s best. Scores of organizations and doctors have already lent their names to this consolidated endorsement list. But more visibility is needed.

Please reach out to more groups, doctors, politicians, and celebrities. Ask they join Save Standard Time’s list or publish their own statements against permanent DST and for permanent Standard Time.

Send Sponsors & Build the Board

Save Standard Time was founded in June of 2019 as a nonprofit, nonpartisan, single-issue effort to preserve and extend the observation of longitudinally correct Standard Time. Its operations are administered by its volunteer board, in consultation with allies across North America. Save Standard Time’s focus is the United States and Canada, with support provided to other nations as time and funds permit. Save Standard Time seeks to expand advocacy efforts for healthier and safer Standard Time, to replace bills for permanent DST with bills for permanent Standard Time, and to restore permanent Standard Time across North America.

A great amount of ongoing time is required to research history, follow news updates, read draft legislation, index articles and studies, update this website and its corresponding social media, compose letters and emails, make phone calls, discuss issues with experts in relevant fields of study, travel to and meet with legislators, and keep track of all progress. Save Standard Time also has financial costs, such as state and federal registration fees, bookkeeping, travel, mailbox rental, website and email hosting, postage, and printing. DST and permanent DST are supported by special-interest lobbyists. Save Standard Time is supported by volunteer work and donated funds.

In 2021, Save Standard Time incorporated as a 501(c)(4) nonprofit. If you have suggestions for (or would like to volunteer as) a board member, please email info@savestandardtime.com.

For those interested in financial contribution, donations can be placed via the button below. We are registered for organizational transparency with the Candid GuideStar program.
